What seems different in yourself -- that's the rare thing you possess. The one thing that gives each of us his worth, and that's just what we try to suppress. And we claim to love life. -- Andre Gide
“People would die to have your job!” My mother complains when I try to make her understand that my life as a full-time geek is over.
Well, let them, say I.
“Don’t you know there are unemployed IT professionals in India?” My geek husband adds helpfully.
What?
Every other sensible person: “You could teach IT in the schools.”
Like maybe I could avoid a huge disaster if I just used what I already have.
But, I’m a writer and card-carrying English major, dammit! What about T.S. Eliot? Shakespeare? Miss Jane and Emily? What about all the brilliant ideas and epoch-shaping words written by so many?
Tumbleweeds.
To every soul with a day job they hate who takes a night class, or scribbles in the dark after the children have gone to bed, or lovingly smoothes their hand over something they have made and wish they could make a living making, I dedicate this site. You have every right to earn your living at something you love to do.
It is your choice, there is no right or wrong, just you living your life until you drop dead.
And if that doesn't cheer you up, heck, nothing will!
